Andalucia resorts are so numerous that it would take a large space on any website to list them all with a description; and to list and describe all the Andalucia hotels would take years of work. In fact trying to make a definitive directory of all the hotels in Andalucia would be rather like painting the Forth Bridge, a never ending task. Andalucia resorts stretch from Ayamonte on the Costa de la Luz in Western Spain’s Atlantic coast to Aguilas in the South Eastern Mediterranean coast. New resorts in Andalucia, and consequently also many new Andalucia hotels, seem to grow like mushrooms, springing up almost overnight.
Andalucia resorts are usually associated with foreign tourists taking their annual two week package holiday in one of the many hotels in Andalucia but in fact the resorts in Andalucia were the play places of wealthy Spaniards from the inland cities for many years before the package tour phenomenon started. As in modern times, owning a holiday home by the sea was a dream for many, however those that managed to own one years ago were usually very wealthy and the houses tended to be very grand affairs, in fact many were converted to become the first Andalucia hotels.
With the advent of package tours and cheap air travel the resorts in Andalucia were quick to realize that as they could virtually guarantee hot sunshine for several months in the summer they had something that Northern European citizens wanted. Probably the best known of the modern day resorts in Andalucia is Benidorm; the British in particular flocked here and hotels were thrown up as fast as possible, not always in the best of taste and certainly not with the necessary planning and infrastructure. Many of the Andalucia hotels that were built to take advantage of the influx of package tourists seeking accommodation in Andalucia were built hastily and as economically as possible with not a lot of thought being given to the comfort of the occupants. Thankfully many of these have been replaced and the new hotels and other accommodation in Andalucia are being built to a standard to match any hotel anywhere in the world.
Following on from the mass tourism boom of the sixties and seventies we witnessed the advent of golf tourism and this was initiated firstly in the Costa del Sol and quickly followed by other resorts in Andalucia. The authorities decided to organize this under the overall marketing umbrella of Andalucia Golf and the resulting success has led to a plethora of golfing resorts in Andalucia. Many of the new golf resorts are like small towns with hotels, apartments and villas offering all types of accommodation in Andalucia for holiday golfers.
